Roy Barkan

My research integrates genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to understand how organisms adapt to environmental stress and emerging biological threats. During my PhD, I investigated the genetic basis of thermal stress tolerance and genome evolution in abalone using genome sequencing and transcriptomics. In my current postdoctoral research, I study the genetics of the honeybee parasite Varroa destructor to identify molecular targets for RNA interference–based control strategies, including the development of dsRNA molecules as precision miticides. My work aims to generate genomic resources and molecular tools that support sustainable aquaculture, agriculture, and biosecurity.
