Biography

Dr Ratna Paudyal joined USC Business School in the role of Lecturer, Accounting (Fraser Coast) in February 2016. He is a highly experienced, qualified and awarded university lecturer with nineteen plus years of teaching experience at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, both in Australia and overseas. Ratna's teaching track record is exemplary, with student satisfaction rates well above average and high pass grade results within all courses taught at University of Western Sydney (WSU), University of Southern Queensland (USQ) and University of Sunshine Coast (USC Australia). Colleagues, universities, the wider education community, and Ratna's community recognise his comprehensive knowledge of teaching pedagogy and demonstrated ability to apply these skills within and outside undergraduate classrooms. He has the ability to effectively engage students, especially those from diverse backgrounds (including those with low socio-economic status) to facilitate their learning and retention. With a passion for teaching others and enhancing personal capabilities through support and pastoral care, Ratna's teaching practices and community engagement activities have led to increased graduate employability.


Ratna has undertaken researched in the areas of microfinance and social issues, as well as human resource development in relation to Nepal.

  • 2019: USC School of Business Engagement Award in recognition of creating productive partnerships between students and Fraser Coast business community
  • 2016: Australian Awards for University Teaching - Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning For collaborative, student-centred, dialogic teaching and pastoral care, that develops self-efficacy and social capital in business students, particularly underrepresented students, facilitating their transition to employment.
  • 2015: USQ Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, Awarded by Vice- Chancellor University of Southern Queensland For the sustained development and implementation of highly effective teaching and learning strategies that develop Business students’ self-efficacy and facilitate transition to the work force.
  • 2015: Australian Council for Educational Leaders Tertiary Teacher of the Year Award for Outstanding Educational Leadership, Awarded by Fraser Coast Education Alliance Inc

Community activities

Rotary funding and donation collection

  • Annually since 2016: Approximately $18,000 per annum for educational scholarships for 12 Nepali students who faced financial hardship in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake
  • 2015: Raised 13,596 AUD for Nepal Earthquake Appeal
  • 2014: 8,000 AUD to International Nepal Fellowship, Australia, the project is focused on enhancing socioeconomic situation of disable people through health and education in Nepal
  • 2013: 8,000 AUD to provide generator to rural community hospital, Rasuwa, Nepal

Rotary project

  • 2018: Rotary Australia Worldwide Community Service (RAWCS) and USC Nepal Project (Self-funded by Volunteers; cash and in-kind service)
  • 2015: Distribution of school supplies to 1,800 earthquake affected students in Rasuwa, Nepal
  • 2015: providing education and health training to school teachers and students in Rasuwa, Nepal
