Research
Dr Flemming's specialist areas of knowledge include kidney physiology, diabetes, mitochondrial dysfunction, and healthy aging. In particular, she studies the role of cellular energetics and cellular injury using metabolic and biochemical assays, to understand the underlying pathophysiology of disease. Dr Flemming has undertaken several research projects investigating the underlying role of mitochondrial dysfunction as a pathological mediator in diabetic kidney disease in cell-culture models, murine models, and in clinical research. Dr Flemming is also interested in studying the pathophysiology of kidney injury in critical care medicine and is currently undertaking a collaborative research project in this field.
