Jason Thompson

Associate Professor Thompson holds a PhD in Medicine (2015), Masters in Clinical Psychology, and a Bachelor of Science with Honours.

Jason Thompson is a registered psychologist and Associate Professor within the Faculty of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. Until early 2024, he was Co-Director of the Transport, Health and Urban Systems (THUS) Research Laboratory of the Melbourne School of Design. A/Prof Thompson is a computational social scientist, focusing on the translation of research into practice across the areas of post-injury rehabilitation, compensation system, and health system design.

A/Prof Thompson is a previous Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Award (DECRA) Fellow and a current ARC Future Fellow. Among other roles, he is a Chief Investigator on the current NHMRC Centre of Excellence in Compensable Injury after Road Crashes. Epidemiological modeling A/Professor led with colleagues from MDHS in 2020 informed the Victorian Government's strategy for exiting its second wave of COVID-19 infections prior to the availability of vaccines.

Associate Professor Thompson has published over 100 research articles and reports in the past decade and has also attracted close to $5m of research funding as a CI in that time.
