Biography

Dr Holly Meyer is a Midwifery Lecturer and course coordinator within the Bachelor and Graduate Diploma of Midwifery programs at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC). With a dedicated background as both a registered nurse and midwife, Dr Meyer has practised across a range of models including tertiary health care, team midwifery, and private practice.

Dr Meyer commenced teaching at UniSC in 2014 and has since contributed across the disciplines of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedicine. She was awarded Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in 2021. Holly enjoys engaging with students to foster the development of midwifery knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills within both theoretical and work-integrated learning environments.

Dr Meyer’s PhD research explored factors influencing the intentions of key maternity stakeholders—birthing women, midwives, and obstetricians—regarding normal physiological birth. Underpinned by the Theory of Planned Behaviour and examined through a Critical Realist lens, her research provides insight into the structural and individual enablers and barriers to promoting physiological birth within contemporary maternity systems.

Her ongoing research and professional interests centre on promoting physiological birth, enhancing interprofessional collaboration, and strengthening women-centred, evidence-based midwifery care. Dr Meyer is passionate about translating research into education and practice to improve outcomes for women, babies, and families.
