Biography

Dr Declan Humphreys is a researcher in philosophy and applied ethics, specialising in AI ethics and cybersecurity. His work explores the ethical implications of AI for society, individuals, and businesses, focusing on how moral philosophy can be integrated into the design and adoption of technology.

He has co-authored research on the cybersecurity risks of businesses adopting generative AI and has spoken at conferences on topics such as AI 'deathbots' and pricing algorithms. His research also extends to the philosophy of video games and pleasure, reflecting his broader interest in how philosophical frameworks can be used to understand emerging technologies.

Currently, his work examines the risks posed by large language models, including how they reinforce existing social biases and devalue true information. He also studies the security vulnerabilities of AI systems, how they can be manipulated and what this means for the moral responsibility of businesses using them. While his research engages with technical aspects of AI, his primary interest lies in applying ethical theories to real-world technological challenges.
