Associate Professor Brendon Murphy is a dual qualified lawyer and social worker. He completed his Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the University of Newcastle (Australia). He was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of NSW in 2005, and worked in the early part of his career in compensation litigation and as an in-house lawyer. He was called to academy as an academic, and awarded a Citation for Excellence in Teaching by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council in 2010. He completed his doctoral dissertation on the regulation of undercover investigation and legal knowledge systems in 2015, later published as The Regulation of Undercover Investigation: The Australian Experience in 2021. In addition to his academic work, he has served as Head Assessor for the NSW Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Board since 2017, and served as senior policy lawyer with the Law Council of Australia. He is author and co-author of more than 30 books and journal articles.
His research interests include criminal law, evidence, legal theory and the epistemologies of law.
