Associate Professor Joseph Aizen is a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Ruppin Academic Center, specializing in fish reproductive physiology, endocrinology, and aquaculture biotechnology. His research focuses on understanding and manipulating reproductive processes in commercially important aquatic species through the development and application of recombinant hormones, endocrine monitoring tools, and novel reproductive technologies.
Associate Professor Aizen has led studies on sex differentiation and sex change in barramundi, reproductive endocrinology in marine fish, and the physiological regulation of reproduction using recombinant gonadotropins. His work has contributed to the development of hormone-based technologies aimed at improving broodstock management, accelerating maturation, and enhancing aquaculture productivity. He has also developed immunological and molecular tools for monitoring reproductive hormones and investigating endocrine function in fish and other aquatic vertebrates.
In addition to his research activities, Dr. Aizen teaches courses in aquaculture, fish physiology, and marine biotechnology, while mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. His laboratory integrates endocrinology, molecular biology, and applied aquaculture to translate fundamental discoveries into practical solutions for sustainable aquatic food production.
