Biography
Dr Trong Tran completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry at Griffith University in 2015. He then undertook postdoctoral research at the National Cancer Institute, part of the US National Institutes of Health (2015–2017), where he contributed to advanced research in natural product drug discovery.
In 2017, he was awarded the SIEF STEM+ Business Research Fellowship, which marked the start of his appointment at the University of the Sunshine Coast. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry in 2023. In 2024, he was awarded the Advance Queensland Mid-Career Industry Research Fellowship, recognising his growing impact in industry-engaged research.
Dr Tran leads a Natural Products Chemistry research group focused on the discovery and characterisation of bioactive small molecules from diverse natural sources, including plants, bee products, microorganisms, and aquaculture organisms. His research underpins applications in pharmaceutical, food, and agricultural innovation.
