Professor Ralph is a clinical researcher and healthcare innovator specialising in surgical optimization and healthcare education. He is a passionate advocate for compassionate, equitable patient care and is keenly interested in surgical pre- and rehabilitation and interventions that support better surgical outcomes.

Over his career, he has attracted over $8 million in grant funding and raised in excess of $2m in venture capital. He is an inventor of medical devices, holding international patents in medical device design, and has commercialised his own research culminating in winning the Gold Prize (Medical and Scientific) at the Australian Good Design Awards. His inventions are used by Australian hospitals and international militaries. He is a previous winner of the Australian Nurse of the Year award, and has experience in leading large-scale transformational projects in both healthcare and the higher education sector.
