Lin Fung

Biography

In addition to leading the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) -Pathology program at UniSC, Lin is the President-Elect of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and together with her MSc and PhD students actively researches different aspects of blood donation, patient blood management and mechanism of transfusion reaction. She is actively engaged with the both the Metro North and Metro South Hospital and Health Services Patient Blood Management committees, where she supports and enables evidence based transfusion practice. Her other affiliations include membership of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) and Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ).

Research

Lin has over 70 peer publications, over 140 conference abstracts, secured research grants worth over A$4.5 million, and regularly is invited to speak at international conferences. She established and is the Leader of the “OptiBlood” translational research team which is focused on optimising the patient’s blood and blood use. She has successfully supervised multiple PhD candidates and specialises in mentoring health professionals though their research projects.

All of her research projects involve collaboration with local or international health services. Some of her current projects

1. Blood donors and donations in Asia (collaboration with over 15 countries)
2. Health informatics of blood management in Australian health systems (collaboration with The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane)
3. Blood use in Sweden (collaboration with Linkoping University & Karolinska Institute, Sweden)
4. Investigating the use of cryopreserved and refrigerated platelets (collaboration with Australia Lifeblood).
