Biography

Dr Lachlan Goold is a recording engineer, producer, popular music educator, researcher, author and senior lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His research focuses on practice-based music production approaches, theoretical uses of space, diversity and inclusion in the recording studio, and the music industry. He co-authored Regurgitator’s Unit for Bloomsbury’s 33 1/3 series in 2022 and, professionally, he is known as Australian music producer Magoo. As a music producer and engineer, he is a two-time ARIA award winner, has directly contributed to seven other ARIA winning works, and has produced multiple gold and platinum records.

In 2024, he co-designed and delivered the Music Producers Development Program (MPDP) with Indigenous elder, Uncle Kevin Starkey for First Nations music producers. The MPDP’s goal is to build capacity for Indigenous music producers in DIY recording approaches and won “Outstanding Community Work” at the 2026 Music Producers and Engineers’ Guild (MPEG) awards.
