Biography
My research focuses on understanding and defining what is ethical and evidence-based group therapy in the online space.
Recently, my team’s research has identified what is currently understood in the published literature regarding knowledge and skills in delivering group therapy online, as well as the lived experience of Australian group therapists, when facilitating online group therapy.
In the past, I have also confirmed the efficacy of group therapy for various issues and populations, including general community wellbeing and those suffering eating disorders.
We are now working on discovering the lived experience of group therapists globally, when facilitating their group therapy in the online context, as well as how an online group facilitator remains grounded when the online group participants become disinhibited. I will also be researching in the area of best-practice guidelines in how to optimise group cohesion, group presence, as well as counselling microskills within the online group context.
As well as taking an active role in program and course coordination, as well as tutoring at UniSC, I am an active advocate for counselling education, enabling research in counselling by counsellors, and reviewer for national and international counselling journals.
