About
Erin Wills is a PhD candidate at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Erin investigates how to better restore and manage complex ecosystems in rapidly urbanising regions. Her work aims to improve ecological restoration by considering the spatial relationships between different habitat types, such as coastal wetlands, freshwater systems, and surrounding terrestrial zones, and the species they support. She focuses on identifying cost-effective ecological indicators that can guide restoration across multiple habitats and ecological realms (marine, freshwater, and terrestrial). By combining data on terrestrial, aquatic, and semi-aquatic species with landscape and habitat metrics, she is developing practical tools and frameworks to improve restoration outcomes, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem resilience across whole landscapes.
Erin also collaborates with Wild Asia, a Malaysian non-profit organisation, where she is involved in projects to improve biodiversity within oil palm plantation landscapes.
