Abstract
The world is becoming a "global village" with multinational investment increasing and transnational operations multiplying. Over the years there has been phenomenal growth in foreign direct investment in the East Asian countries. Mongolia is no exception. As Australia's economic development is very much linked with Asia, more and more Australian expatriates and business people need to deal with Asian counterparts. As such, expatriates living abroad, or business people visiting a host country, need to learn to operate in accordance with local customs, business environment and ethics, to succeed in the international arena. This paper addresses important issues in the selection and preparation of Australian expatriates and the cross-cultural differences facing Australian business people, for business in Mongolia.
