Abstract
This thesis extends the frametale genre through the construction of a creative artefact that is a symbiotic frametale. A comparative historical analysis between the canonical frametale Arabian Nights and the contemporary frametale Eucalyptus by Murray Bail reveals their conventional and unique frametale characteristics. Through application and extension of their narrative devices and genre conventions, the creative artefact White Noise constructs a uniquely resonant relationship between the text's frame story and its embedded narrative.
