Abstract
Unspeakable Acts of Privacy was an innovative promenade theatre performance which addressed the issue of Privacy in the contemporary world. With the influx of new technologies, it asked the question 'where do we draw the line in our lives between the public and the private'? Performed in public and private spaces around the grounds of the University of Queensland, as a part of the ANYWHERE THEATRE FESTIVAL, the production utilised the contrasting mediums of large-scale Physical Theatre spectacle and Intimate Theatre, where the audience got to interact with the performers in a one-on-one setting. Unspeakable Acts of Privacy focused in on how "new technologies" (Facebook, Twitter; Smart Phone Apps), and companies such as Google and Apple, have dramatically changed the information landscape in ways that challenge contemporary expectations of privacy. The production asked the audience to confront these changes directly and to examine their own attitudes toward them in our hyper-mediated lives.
