Abstract
Midwifery mentors play an important role in shaping the future of the midwifery profession by guiding and supporting the development of student midwives and less experienced colleagues. This chapter explores the mentor's role including a definition of mentoring, preparation to become a mentor, effective mentor-mentee relationships, assessment and evaluation of mentoring, and finally challenges and future directions in midwifery mentorship. In this chapter, the term 'mentor' will be used as an overarching term for other terms, such as preceptor, facilitator, coach, supervisor, or assessor
