Abstract
The Dragon of Shandon is one of Ireland's largest Halloween events, celebrating the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain with a community-driven parade in Cork's historic Shandon district. Organized by Cork Community Artlink (CCAL), the event fosters local engagement, artistic collaboration, and cultural pride, drawing over 15,000 spectators annually. Unlike commercially driven festivals, it prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility, supported by government funding and local contributions. The event also demonstrates the growing role of urban festivals in revitalizing public spaces, enhancing civic identity, and promoting cultural participation, making it a key example of community-led cultural celebration in contemporary urban life.
