Abstract
This chapter gives a brief overview of the origins of mentorship and the history of midwifery and mentorship offering examples in a few countries. The activities of mentorship, being those of support, advice and guidance, have been passed down through history via formal and/or informal mentoring relationships as they are inherited within midwifery.
