This report is a synthesis of key findings of an ecosystem function assessment of the Sunshine Coast
Region. The assessment seeks to inform land use planning and decision making at Local and State
Government levels, particularly in relation to the project team’s interpretation of statutory obligations
under Section 3.2 of the Queensland Planning Act 2016 including “protecting ecological processes
and natural systems” specifically defined to include: “(i) conserving, enhancing or restoring the lifesupporting
capacities of air, ecosystems, soil and water for present and future generations;” (Chapter 1,
Section 3, Part 2).
The assessment was completed as part of the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) and Sunshine
Coast Council (SCC) Regional Partnership Agreement Project (1804), Valuing the Sunshine Coast’s
Natural Assets.
