National Rainforest Conservation Program
1991
Abstract
This study of the population biology and genetic variation of Huon pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii) included sites at Warra between Blakes Opening and Tahune Reserve. Although Huon pine has very limited lateral seed dispersal, in the major (Gordon, Huon, Davey) river systems, inter-population gene flow occurs along rivers, and the populations are genetically similar. It was concluded that to conserve Huon pine, these areas require general fire suppression rather than management of individual stands.
