Abstract
A Discussion Paper Prepared for Independent Schools Queensland. This paper examines policy issues in relation to the education of students with disabilities (SWDs) particularly from the perspective of independent schools and suggests a review of current policy frameworks concerning the support for students with disabilities, the definition and current funding arrangements in terms of ensuring this most vulnerable group of students in our community is fully supported in their school education. The number of funded students with disabilities enrolled in Queensland independent schools has increased by 122% between 2002 and 2008, raising a number of policy implications for independent schools in terms of the resources and infrastructure to support these students.
