Monash University
2012
Abstract
This report presents an overview of the project "Strengthening Safety Culture in Logistics Operations" that was conducted by Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) in collaboration with Australian air Express (AaE). The main aims of this project were to: (1) conduct a critical review of the current safety culture within AaE; (2) identify practical initiatives to strengthen the safety culture within AaE; (3) identify practical initiatives to foster organisational processes to promote the continuing review and enhancement of the safety culture within AaE; and (4) disseminate research findings, via publication in practitioner magazines, journal articles and conference presentations, to pass on the benefits of this project to professional practitioners, the wider community and other researchers. A summary of the research activities undertaken, main findings, conclusions and recommendations are presented. In addition, findings from the workshop that was conducted in collaboration with AaE staff to identify potential constraints on implementation, and refine and develop the recommendations proposed by MUARC are presented in detail.
