2016
Abstract
Frailty is a clinical syndrome affecting individuals who experience loss in one or more domains of human functioning (physical, cognitive, psychological, and social). Frailty leaves people at risk of rapid decline in physical and mental wellbeing. The my-AHA project support active and healthy aging by enabling early detection and minimization of risks associated with aging. Therefore, the definitions of parameters that defines different frailties and their inter-relationships are paramount. Physical frailty is defined by reduced hand grip and lower limb strength, and impaired gait. Cognitive frailty is characterized by subjective cognitive compliant or mild cognitive impairment associated with physical frailty. This condition may be investigated using several neuropsychological tests (MMSE, MoCA, HVLT). Psychological frailty is defined essentially trough the investigation of depressive and anxiety conditions. Finally, social frailty is defined by deprivation of social support and social isolation.
