Abstract

Public health Health promotion Cross cultural health promotion Intimate partner violence
The Moreton Multicultural Unique Mums (MMUMs) initiative is a health promotion sexual, domestic, and family violence (SDFV) program developed by the Centre Against Domestic Abuse Inc (CADA), Caboolture, Queensland to engage community leaders, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women experiencing a range of social, cultural, and geographical barriers to accessing SDFV services in the Moreton Bay Local Government Area. MMUMs commenced as a pilot in 2021 and delivers six-to-eight-week blocks of small group sessions for a range of refugee and migrant women who are pregnant and/or caring for children under 12 years of age. CADA commissioned an evaluation of MMUMs between March 2024 and June 2025, which was undertaken by a team of University of the Sunshine Coast health promotion academics supported by a budget of $36,000. The purpose of the evaluation was to determine the following: a) how the program has worked, and which program elements have contributed to its effectiveness; b) what the short-term changes in individual, community and system level factors that address the determinants of SDFV in local refugee and migrant communities were; and 3) to share learnings with the SDFV sector. This is the Final Evaluation Report for the MMUMs health promotion program.
