How Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Theatre Groups Responded to COVID-19
University of the Sunshine Coast
2021
Abstract
Artistic practitioners, such as actors and theatres, are used to operating in an uncertain environment with limited resources. However, COVID 19 tested the Australian arts community like nothing else.
The impact on the arts sector of just the first wave of COVID 19 was estimated to be between $850 million and $2 billion AUD.
How the pandemic affected the vibrant theatre communities of the Sunshine Coast (including Noosa) and Moreton Bay has not been explored. Theatre is an important part of these regions as an employer, a strategic Council focus, a tourism attractor and, most importantly, a contributor to culture and the community.
The data was gathered via interviews with representatives of theatre groups from the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay between February and July 2021.
