Control of nut abscission in macadamia. Final Report: MC97005
Horticulture Australia
2003
Abstract
Valuable information about the relationship between macadamia nut maturity and nut fall emerged from a series of investigations between 1997 and 2002. The ethylene-releasing chemical Ethrel ® was assessed for its efficacy in enhancing nut fall. The research indicated that coupled with tree shaking Ethrel might provide a useful means for removing nuts soon after they reach maturity. Work is being continued in project MC 00029. This project was funded by the Macadamia Industry levy with matched funding from the Australian Government facilitated through HAL.
