Abstract
This presentation, "Preparing for ANMAC Nursing Accreditation 2026 - Beginning the Journey," outlined the efforts undertaken by the Nursing Discipline's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ANMAC Curriculum Team at UniSC. The team, including Matt Mason, Lynne Stuart, Naomi Howell and Joanne Lee, focused on embedding Indigenous perspectives within the nursing curriculum. The presentation highlighted the necessity for cultural safety training among nursing staff, revealing that only a small percentage have completed the required training. The analysis of current curriculum integration showed varying degrees of inclusion of Indigenous content, with some courses incorporating Indigenous pedagogical approaches and assessments. Key developments included the establishment of partnerships with Indigenous organisations and the conceptualisation of an Indigenised curriculum icon to enhance the visibility of Indigenous content across all School of Health courses. This initiative aims to improve the retention of Indigenous students by ensuring they see themselves reflected in the curriculum. The presentation called for further collaboration among discipline members to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives, fostering a culturally safe and inclusive educational environment.
