Abstract

Nursing

In Australia, Indigenous peoples often over-represent in intensive care patient populations who often present to the hospital sicker (or a later presentation) than their non-Indigenous counterparts. The ongoing impact of colonisation has left significant inequities in Australian Indigenous people’s healthcare access, participation, and the provision of Culturally Safe care by healthcare professionals. There is a significant gap in literature regarding the practices of Cultural Safety in intensive care, which is an exceptionally specialised area of care requiring a person-centred focus, which is inclusive of Cultural Safety. There is currently no evidence suggesting what Cultural Safety practices are of healthcare professionals in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
