Abstract
Gamified applications are widely used in the field of disaster education but only a small number of these applications have achieved success and are currently in use. Therefore, it is crucial to assess the current research on disaster related gamified applications in order to identify strategies that will support the sustainability of gamified applications. This review aims to identify various types of technology and techniques employed by 42 gamified applications for a successful game launch. The majority (32.4%) of the gamified applications reviewed were developed by Asian countries, but only a small fraction (2.4%) of them is currently available to play. Further, the gamified applications developed using paradigms that prioritise testing and release phases achieved successful launches. Scholars also recommend that these applications should not be standalone activities but should be integrated with tutoring sessions when incorporated into educational curricula.
