CATSINaM, Muliyan Story
2021
Abstract
Dr Lynne Stuart is one of ten founding members of ‘MULIYAN’ 2020…an Indigenist Research Consortium. We are a Collective Voice of Australian Indigenous Nursing and Midwifery Academics. On the 10th of December 2020 CATSINaM held Australia’s first Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety Education Research Consortium. The agenda was set to decolonise Nursing and Midwifery.
The consortium was gifted the name ‘Muliyan’ by Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Matilda House. Muliyan for the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples means ‘Eagle eye view’, rising above, to look across Country. This is truly representative of our research consortium, where our goals are to design, develop and evaluate standards of education, training, and assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Cultural Safety of the nursing and midwifery professions that promote safer healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
