Rising Tides
University of Western Australia
2025
Abstract
Rising Tides is situated on Perth’s southern shores between Cockburn and Fremantle – Derbal Nara and Walyalup. On Australia’s western edge, Perth has long been anchored to the vast Indian Ocean and its technicolour tides. In the coming decades, the coast will not stay the same – change is inevitable. In the Rising Tides Studio, students of landscape architecture at The University of Western Australia School of Design envision new coastal futures in a changing climate, inspired by community values and artworks, in collaboration with social scientists and coastal engineers. This project has been made possible with funding from UWA Oceans Institute’s Better Oceans Program, as part of the project 'A new vision for coastal resilience: Engaging communities through art to design a transformative future' led by A/Prof Natasha Pauli.
