I hope you had a great start to 2025!
The past year saw some great progress, from important research initiatives to valuable collaborations, and I’m looking forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead. Together, we’ve laid a strong foundation for further advancements in timber durability, circularity, and sustainable construction.
The team at the Durability Centre has hit the ground running with vigour, and we are thrilled to launch our geospatial mapping initiative for timber resources across Australia. This groundbreaking tool provides detailed insights into the locations, types, and quantities of underutilized timber resources. By enabling the repurposing of timber waste into valuable materials, the map aims to reduce waste disposal costs, minimize environmental impact, and contribute significantly to Australia’s circular economy goals. We sincerely thank our key partners and funders for their support in advancing timber circularity research for the Australian industry.
We are also excited to welcome two new members to the Centre as we continue to expand our expertise. It is rewarding to see key research projects delivering impactful results, including the identification of new wood species that can qualify as bushfire-resistant timber for use in BAL-29 areas. Additionally, our investigation into boron preservative migration in laminated products has confirmed that glue lines do not significantly impede boron diffusion in glue-laminated timber.
Looking ahead, I am eager to strengthen partnerships, drive innovation, and support the industry in navigating an ever-evolving landscape. Thank you for being part of this journey—I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the coming year.
