Midwifery practice in Ontario, Canada

2016
Abstract
Last year I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend six months in Ontario, Canada, hosted as a visiting academic at McMaster University. During my sabbatical, I was able to participate in the delivery of midwifery education, study the regulation of midwifery practice, and witness midwifery practice standards in action. These experiences were made possible by professional development funding provided by the University of the Sunshine Coast, the generosity of the host staff at McMaster University, and the primary care midwives working in Hamilton, Burlington, and Guelph. This article aims to share with readers what I learnt about midwifery practice in Canada and introduce readers to the funding of midwifery services and the regulation of midwifery practice in Ontario.
