Abstract

Film, Television and Digital Media interactive digital animation cell biology insulin release glucose cell membrane molecules protein channels
A 3D experience in the CAVE2 TM facility to demonstrate the structure and function of cells of the kidney and the pancreas within the context of type II diabetes mellitus. This simulation demonstrates the movement and interaction of various molecules which lead to the release of insulin (from the pancreas) as well as the processes that lead to glucosuria (in the kidneys). The experience takes the user from the macro scale of the kidney, down to the nano scale of molecules, vesicles, channels and transporters. Used as a teaching resource in LFS303 Pathophysiology and engagement resource in open days and public tours of the CAVE2TM facility.
