60 seconds of #life and #death

Abstract
60 seconds of #life and #death' reduces a sixty minute stream of default notification sounds from Twitter which were triggered by searches for #life (left channel) and #death (right channel). The source sixty minute continuous sound stream captured both hashtag searches simultaneously. Its morse code-like effect results from changing the speed of the original stream of sixty minutes to sixty seconds. This work continues my exploration of repurposing default notification sounds from various mobile apps with an intention to elevate them from being functional sonic outputs and reimagine them into poetic and meaningful sonic contexts. This work also investigates the use of the hashtag as a method of signification and also binary oppositional commentary within a social media space.
