AI for the Decolonisation of Academia
Medium, Vol.4 June 2025
2025
Abstract
Contemporary academia has increasingly positioned itself as a critical space for interrogating colonial legacies and advancing decolonial discourse. Ironically, however, it continues to operate on a deeply colonial foundation — one that privileges English as the dominant language and Western modes of reasoning and academic writing as the norm. This structure marginalises scholars with non-Anglophone backgrounds and who have not been trained within Western academic traditions, making it harder for them to access, contribute to, and be recognised by global academic communities.
