2019
Abstract
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present details on the role of work life expectancy in the determination of economic loss of future earnings. Design/methodology/approach - The approach used in this paper is a legal method of investigation in which review and analysis is undertaken of the relevant issues of the creation of work life expectancy tables for interpretation by the legal profession, actuaries; forensic accountants; and forensic economists. Findings/results - The paper offers insights into the role of work life expectancy tables for application by the legal profession as a basis for evaluating economic loss of earnings. It is however dependent upon engagement with actuaries, forensic accountants, and forensic economists who would undertake the calculations required. The implications are that calculations of Work life expectancy tables for the Australian population are potentially valuable for the consideration of the courts.
