Abstract
FERIC evaluated the use of four categories of dust suppressant (hygroscopic products, lignosulfonate, a bituminous emulsion, and synthetic products) on a forestry road. The results indicated that each can be effective under certain conditions and that the choice of a product depends on the nature of the road, the volume of traffic, the frequency of grading required, the amount of precipitation expected, and the budget. The report describes how to plan and carry out the treatment of roads using dust suppressants.
