Anatolia, Vol.35(1), pp.198-201
2024
Abstract
The third International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH) was held between 21–25 August in Bogor, Indonesia, in a hybrid format of face-to-face and online manner, consisting of a three-day conference and two-day field trip. The ICRTH 2023 conference was jointly organized by IPB University, Indonesia, Sarawak Research Society (SRS) and Responsible Borneo (REBORN). This was the second in-person edition of the conference, after Kuching, Malaysia, played host in August 2022. ICRTH offered great opportunities to create awareness of tourism as a driving force for development as well as culture and natural heritage preservation. Bogor, Indonesia, provided the setting for the conference themes “Reviving Tourism through Green Investments” and “Sustaining Tourism through Cultural Heritage Conservation”, Green economy is the origin of the concept of green growth, which is now the main focus of investment and emphasizes the importance of preserving nature and culture. The conference has attracted 87 papers, 48 multinational speakers with in-person participants from 15 countries. The conference itself was able to bring about a total of over 300 people from 25 countries all together.
ICRTH serves as a venue to bridge the gaps between tourism stakeholders, including academics, government, practitioners and public in general. This year’s conference built upon the legacies of 2022 and drew upon attendee feedback to formulate more opportunities to foster participant engagement with one another, as well as the wider communities outside of the conference venue. For instance, two pre-conference workshops were held prior to the official welcome, delving into (1) the contemporary topic of publishing in academic journals and (2) tips on advancing quantitative research, respectively. These two workshops offered small group interactions and were able to deliver personalized approaches to individual needs in terms of asking pertinent questions and sharing insights into their own research areas.
