Dyer & Hill (1991) discussed problems experienced in establishing occupancy rates for burrowing birds, in particular, Wedge-tailed Shearwaters Puffinus pacificus. They reported the development of burrow viewing equipment: a 'burrowscope'. This equipment has been thoroughly tested and proven. It overcame problems of previous methods
