Role of the prosthetist in provision of bone-anchored prostheses: governmental and practitioner perspectives
AOPA Review, Vol.3(1), pp.26-27
2018
Abstract
The role of prosthetists at the heart of provision of bone-anchored prostheses (BAP) has been largely overlooked (e.g. primary point of contact for consumers, responsible for prosthetic loading). Prosthetists motivated to be newly involved in the delivery of BAP might lack tangible information to manage expectations related to prosthetic care and business management. This report aims to further delineate the specific roles of prosthetists in the provision of BAP that may have the potential to affect prosthetic scope of practice. The objectives were to present (A) the roles of prosthetists as described in recent publications focusing on health service and economic evaluations of BAP and, (B) the broader potential contributions of prosthetists in the provision of BAP beyond governmental perspectives.
