Postmodernism and Feminist Criminologies: Disconnecting Discourses?
International Journal of the Sociology of Law, Vol.22(3), pp.261-277
1994
Abstract
While postmodernism has led to increasing skepticism about essentialism in feminist theory & research, it is neither the only nor the earliest critique in that direction. In effect, feminist criminology has anteceded postmodernism in disconnecting essentialist discourses about crime & gender. In this context, the contribution of postmodernism to the feminist de-essentializing interrogation of crime, law, & criminal justice is seen as significant, but limited.
