Patriotism: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Abstract
In this paper I introduce why identity has become important in the face of globalisation and how this has resulted in new forms patriotism. I will argue that the new forms of patriotism are very different from the old nationalisms and challenge the very fabric of democratic rights. I explore the implication of these forms of patriotism for minorities. I conclude by looking at some possible future directions.
