Abstract

silvereye Aves Zosteropidae
The silvereye (Zosterops lateralis) is a small Australian passerine (10-13 g) belonging to the white-eye family Zosteropidae. It is the most abundant native passerine in parts of the east, south and south-west of the continent. It is also the most studied of all Australian landbirds, having the greatest number of birds banded among all Australian bird species. In this paper, I draw from historical and recent observations to provide an overview of the migration system of the silvereye and present a framework for understanding its movement behaviour.
