Method Writing: a creative methodology for enabling post-traumatic growth
New Writing, Vol.15(3), pp.322-332
2018
Abstract
Method Writing, a creative writing process modified on the principles of Method Acting, is explored within this article as a qualitative research methodology to give 'voice' to those suffering serious global health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D). It is intended this methodology will generate deeper understanding and insight around key health and social issues, and raise personal and community awareness of those suffering from the impact of trauma and chronic illness, together with their families and carers. Method Writing is investigated as a process of accessing the voice, landscape and experience of those silenced by traumatic events, and is discussed as a tool for positive change for individuals suffering P.T.S.D, to facilitate transformation into recovery, and post-traumatic growth (P.T.G).
