In this article I explain what is meant by “writing academic papers as Jungian action research.” My focus is the product of my decade-long action inquiry to enhance youth resilience using Jungian archetypal stories and images. My method has been an exercise in making my thoughts, feelings and behaviours more conscious. As a result, I have found that the act of writing academically about my Story Image approach is an effective system for assimilating the previously unknown aspects of my personality. In Jungian terms, I am ‘integrating my shadow.’ In so doing, I am also enhancing my own level of resilience by becoming more self-aware.
