Effect of edge-sealing on resistance of glueline treated Douglas-fir laminated veneer lumber to Formosan termite attack
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, Vol.73(4), pp.551-552
2015
Abstract
The potential for formosan termite attack of glueline treated Douglas-fir laminated veneer lumber (LVL) was investigated along with the potential for limiting such attack through topical wax coatings. Termites rapidly attacked non-glueline treated LVL. Wax coatings reduced attack, but even wax with 10 ppm imidacloprid was not completely protective on non-glueline treated LVL. Glueline treated LVL was far more resistant to termite attack, but eventually experienced attack. Application of a wax coating with 10 ppm imidacloprid provided the best performance. The results illustrate the benefit of supplemental insecticide/wax coatings for protecting cuts in LVL.
