Dwelling in the Biosphere: People and Place in Relationship
New Community, Vol.24 (1)(93), pp.16-21
2026
Abstract
The Naamba Free University (NFU) community development project was discussed in New Community (Hogg & Lathouras 2025) as a community-based, codesigned learning space fostering critical thinking about contemporary social and environmental issues. In 2024/25, three NFU events focussed on how community development responds to ecological challenges within our local setting of the Sunshine Coast Biosphere. Our analysis draws on theory (such as relationalism, connectedness and eco-psychology) and First Nations perspectives to discuss the significance of the Free Uni processes undertaken. After introducing our context, the article is written in the form of a critically reflective dialogue between the three authors.
